'watcher's eyes'
BOULDER, COLORADO
DIGITAL PAINTING / 11" X 17" / ART / FALL 2019
This piece was inspired by the beautiful aspens forests of Colorado. I have always found a sense of wonder and imagination among the pale giants of these forests. Their 'eyes' always watching; their leaves always trembling. I find inspiration in their vibrant colors during the autumn. The fall colors contrast their monochrome, satin trunks. I chose these elements to inform my vision for this piece.
I used a variety of techniques on this piece including layering and transparency, as well as using one-line techniques on some of the details. I created strong contrast between the vivid detail and textures shown on the trees to the airy and abstract background. I chose to highlight ground plane where the background aspens touch - integrating it with the falling leaves and providing the contrast of color.
